Carel primed for Chillventa connections
Italy – Carel will use Chillventa 2026 to demonstrate a “distributed intelligence” approach to HVAC/R control, combining intelligence at device, supervisory and cloud level to turn system data into information that can support energy efficiency, reliability, maintenance and operational decision-making.
The company will present the concept at the Nuremberg exhibition, taking place from 13-15 October, with technologies spanning building management, refrigeration supervision, food retail, cold-chain applications and individual controllers.
Building management across mixed systems
Carel Group company Kiona will showcase its Web Port and Energinet platforms, designed to integrate systems, technologies and brands from different generations within a single digital environment.
The platforms provide control, monitoring and energy optimisation capabilities without requiring the wholesale replacement of existing infrastructure. According to CAREL, this can help building operators reduce energy waste while providing greater visibility of sustainability performance.
Kiona’s AI Assistant, integrated into Web Port, is intended to simplify the creation of reports and project pages and make system information easier to access.
Local supervision linked to the cloud
At system level, CAREL will present its new boss and boss mini supervisors, which centralise system data, unit status and control logic while connecting local supervision with remote optimisation.
Functions including Map Editor, Rule Engine and the Energy plug-in are designed to support configuration, automation and energy consumption analysis. Integration with CAREL’s RED Optimise cloud platform extends this approach to remote HVAC/R system management in food retail.
“AI does not replace technical expertise; it supports it by transforming data collected from controllers, supervisors and cloud platforms into clearer, more actionable information.” — Carel
AI targets refrigeration maintenance and energy use
For food retail applications, RED Optimise brings together refrigeration system data for use by store operators and service teams.
Its AI-based prescriptive maintenance capabilities can be used to monitor temperatures and defrost cycles and prioritise anomalies, with the aim of allowing maintenance teams to intervene proactively and protect product quality.
An AI Energy Assistant provides energy data analysis and customised reporting aligned with operational KPIs, targeting reductions in consumption, operating costs and associated emissions.
Intelligence moves to individual controllers
Carel is also extending intelligence to individual refrigerated units through its new MPXPRO controller. The product incorporates diagnostics and advanced control functions at device level, with the aim of simplifying commissioning, speeding up fault identification and improving operational reliability.
For cold chain applications, the company will also present customisable controls that can be incorporated into ready-to-install electrical panels. These extend its pRack, MPXPRO and boss offering to refrigerated warehouses, logistics centres and food-processing applications.
Across the portfolio, Carel is positioning artificial intelligence as an additional layer rather than a replacement for engineering expertise. Applications range from its STone-copilot software development tools to cloud-based optimisation through RED Optimise, with the wider strategy focused on moving analysis and decision-making closer to individual HVAC/R systems and components.
