Glow-worm launches MCS umbrella scheme for heat pump installers
UK – Glow-worm has launched an MCS umbrella scheme enabling heating engineers to install heat pumps without obtaining their own MCS certification.
The new Grow with Glow programme connects installers with approved MCS-certified partners who provide system design, technical assistance, commissioning support and certification services, allowing businesses to enter the heat pump market without becoming independently certified.
How the scheme works
Installers joining the programme receive free Glow-worm heat pump training, including a one-day installation and commissioning course for those without relevant qualifications or experience.
Following training, installers complete an onboarding process with a local MCS partner, including verification of their training, company details and public liability insurance.
Once approved, installers can submit projects to their MCS partner, who prepares the system design, heat loss calculations and MCS-compliant quotation.
The partner also provides installation and commissioning assistance, manages certification documentation and supports applications to the Boiler Upgrade Scheme for eligible customers.
Supporting installers entering the market
The programme is aimed at heating engineers moving into heat pumps and businesses looking to gain practical experience before pursuing independent MCS certification.
By pairing installers with experienced MCS-accredited partners and providing practical support every step of the way, we’re making it easier to gain experience in heat pumps without the faff
James Fowler, Marketing & Strategy Director at Glow-worm
The scheme covers Glow-worm heat pump installations, including the company’s GeniaAir range.
