Rheem adds Torin commercial heat pump water heaters
USA – Rheem has introduced its Torin commercial electric air-to-water heat pump water heater range in 20kW and 35kW models for domestic hot water and hydronic heating applications in North American buildings.
The range comprises units rated at 68,000 Btu/h and 120,000 Btu/h, which Rheem describes as 20kW and 35kW models respectively. The manufacturer says the equipment is suited to applications including hotels, schools and universities, offices, government buildings and multifamily retrofits.
The Torin units can be installed indoors or outdoors and support single-pass or multi-pass hydraulic configurations. Up to 16 units can be cascaded, allowing systems to be sized for larger loads and providing scope for redundancy.
Rheem specifies operation at ambient temperatures down to -25°C and a maximum outlet-water temperature of 65.6°C. Its specification sheet notes that defrost reduces actual capacity below 4.4°C ambient.
Both models use R454B refrigerant and feature inverter compressor capacity control, an axial fan, hot-gas-injection defrost and a double-wall 316L stainless-steel water-side heat exchanger.
Smaller footprint
Rheem states that both models achieve a COP of 4.5 under a US Department of Energy test condition of 26.7°C ambient air at 63% relative humidity, with water entering at 21.1°C and leaving at 48.9°C. The figure is not a UK or European seasonal performance rating.
The manufacturer also says the Torin footprint is up to 36% smaller than comparable products, based on its comparison with the average published footprint of unnamed competing models.
