Baxi adds 170kW R290 heat pumps to commercial Auriga range

UK – Baxi has expanded its commercial R290 heat pump portfolio with new Auriga HP+ reversible air source heat pumps offering outputs of up to 170kW and flow temperatures of up to 70°C.

The new high-output range is designed to provide heating, cooling and domestic hot water from a single platform, with applications including education and healthcare estates, offices, hotels and energy centres. The units use R290 propane refrigerant and are intended for both new-build and retrofit projects.

Two high-output versions

Baxi is offering the expanded Auriga HP+ range in two versions. The standard high-output model covers capacities from 50kW to 170kW, while the Auriga HP+ ES is available from 55kW to 170kW.

The ES version incorporates EC inverter axial fans designed to provide high airflow at reduced fan speeds. According to Baxi, this reduces sound levels by 8dB(A), making the units suitable for projects where acoustic performance is an important design consideration.

Both versions are reversible and can provide year-round heating and cooling alongside domestic hot water generation.

R290 and 70°C flow temperatures

The new units use R290 propane, a natural refrigerant with a global warming potential (GWP) of 3.

Baxi says the ErP SCOP-compliant heat pumps can produce hot water at temperatures of up to 70°C. They are designed to operate in heating mode at outdoor temperatures down to -20°C and across operating conditions extending to +42°C.

The combination of higher flow temperatures and outputs of up to 170kW is intended to broaden the range of commercial applications that can be served by the Auriga platform.

Configurable for commercial projects

A range of factory-fitted options is available, allowing consultants and contractors to configure units around individual building and system requirements.

Baxi said the approach is intended to give designers greater flexibility when addressing different site conditions, particularly on retrofit projects where existing infrastructure can impose additional constraints.

Highly configurable and reversible, our new Auriga HP+ models provide the solution-led options our customers across the UK and Ireland need to accelerate the move to a more sustainable future.

Shane Suter, Commercial Business Director, Baxi

Suter added that the expanded portfolio was designed to provide commercial building professionals with a practical route to lower-carbon heating and cooling, supported by Baxi’s wider system and support services.
