ATMOsphere to present European natural refrigerant heat pump market findings
ATMOsphere will hold an online event on 8 October to present findings from its new report examining the European market for commercial chillers and heat pumps using natural refrigerants. The study estimates that around 28,000 commercial propane and CO₂ chillers and heat pumps were installed across Europe by the end of 2025.
The webinar will take place on Zoom at 2pm CEST and will be hosted by Michael Hines, Managing Editor of NaturalRefrigerants.com and lead author of the report, alongside ATMOsphere COO and Co-founder Jan Dusek.
Market availability expands
Commercial Chillers and Heat Pumps with Natural Refrigerants: Europe 2025 examines the policy and market factors influencing the adoption of natural refrigerants in commercial heating and cooling equipment.
ATMOsphere says more than 300 hydrocarbon, CO₂ (R744) and ammonia (R717) commercial chillers and heat pumps were available from more than 65 manufacturers as of August 2026. Products were categorised as chillers, heat pumps, reversible heat pumps and four-pipe or polyvalent heat pumps.
The report also estimates that Europe had an installed base of approximately 27,000 commercial propane (R290) chillers and heat pumps and 1,000 CO₂ systems at the end of 2025. The estimates were developed using manufacturer surveys and interviews alongside desk research.
There have been natural refrigerant-based commercial chillers and heat pumps for more than a decade, and the time for them to scale up is finally here.

Manufacturers provide market perspective
The report includes interviews with representatives from Refra, SCM Frigo, Secon, Systemair and TEKO, supported by case studies covering applications including commercial HVAC, process cooling and integrated heating and cooling systems.
Among the projects highlighted are hydrocarbon heat pump and chiller installations from Refra and Secon, CO₂ heat pump and chiller developments from TEKO and SCM Frigo, and Systemair’s work with air-handling equipment incorporating CO₂ heat pump technology.
The report also considers the influence of European regulation on equipment development and demand, including the role of the 2024 EU F-gas Regulation in accelerating interest in alternatives to fluorinated refrigerants.
Webinar to examine findings
The 8 October webinar will provide an overview of the report’s findings, including product availability, the estimated installed base and the factors expected to influence further adoption of natural refrigerants in the European commercial HVAC and heat pump market.
The report is available free of charge through NaturalRefrigerants.com, while details of the webinar and registration are available through the event announcement.
