Daikin secures first MCS listing for multi-split air-to-air heat pumps

UK – Daikin UK has secured MCS Product Directory listings for 65 residential multi-split air-to-air heat pump combinations through Eurovent Certification, in what the companies describe as a UK industry first. The development removes a key product-certification barrier to use of the £2,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant for air-to-air heat pumps, although installations must also be delivered by an installer holding the relevant MCS certification.

The listings cover 45 Daikin Multi-split combinations and 20 Multi+ combinations, pairing a single outdoor unit with between two and five wall-mounted indoor units.

65 combinations added to MCS directory

Daikin’s Multi-split listings range from two-room configurations through to five-zone systems and include combinations using its Perfera indoor units.

A further 20 Multi+ combinations integrate space heating and cooling with domestic hot water, connecting up to four indoor units and a hot-water tank to one outdoor unit.

The systems could provide an alternative route to low-carbon heating for properties where installing a conventional wet system and associated pipework is difficult, including flats, smaller terraced homes and properties with restricted installation space.

Getting our multi-split products recognised on the MCS Product Directory is an important step towards giving those households a credible low-carbon choice

Certification route avoids repeat testing

Eurovent Certification managed the transfer of existing independently certified product data into the MCS certification process, with Daikin saying no additional product re-testing was required.

MCS 007, the current product standard for heat pumps, includes both single-split and multi-split air-to-air systems within its scope.

The Eurovent route is intended to reduce duplication where manufacturers already hold recognised third-party certification, potentially cutting the time and cost involved in adding qualifying products to the MCS directory.

Listings support new £2,500 grant route

Air-to-air heat pumps became eligible for a £2,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant for residential properties from 28 April 2026.

Product listing does not, however, make an installation automatically eligible for funding. The installer must be MCS certified for the relevant technology and the installation must comply with the wider BUS requirements.

The funded heat pump must be capable of meeting 100% of the property’s space-heating requirement. The overall system must also meet the property’s hot-water demand, either through the heat pump itself or permitted supplementary appliances, and a BUS-funded retrofit must replace the existing fossil-fuel or electric heating system.

Further products expected

Daikin and Eurovent Certification said further products are expected to follow as the MCS framework for air-to-air heat pumps develops.

Matthew Nudd, UK Partnership Manager at Eurovent Certification, said independent certification would be important in building confidence in the technology as the UK market expands.
