Panasonic partners with Borussia Dortmund on building services projects

Germany – Panasonic Heating & Cooling Europe is planning pilot projects using heat pump, air-conditioning and cooling systems across Borussia Dortmund facilities as part of a new five-season partnership with the German football club.

The agreement, announced on 1 October and running until 2031, will see Panasonic become an official partner of Borussia Dortmund, with building-services projects forming part of the wider collaboration.

Pilot projects planned across BVB facilities

Panasonic and Borussia Dortmund said projects are planned at various BVB locations where Panasonic heat pump, air-conditioning and cooling systems could be deployed.

Neither company has yet identified which facilities will be involved or provided details of the technologies, capacities or timescales for individual installations.

The collaboration is intended to support the ongoing development of the club’s infrastructure while increasing the visibility of energy-efficient building technologies.

With our technologies, we aim to help make the club’s infrastructure more sustainable and support its decarbonisation targets

Partnership extends beyond sponsorship

The building-services programme forms part of a wider commercial agreement between the two organisations.

Borussia Dortmund said Panasonic’s technology expertise would support its infrastructure ambitions, while the partnership will provide opportunities to demonstrate the application of modern heating, cooling and air-conditioning systems within sporting facilities.

Benedikt Scholz, Director, Authorised Signatory, Internationalisation & Commercial Partnerships at Borussia Dortmund, said Panasonic shared the club’s ambitions and would support its development with new technologies.
