Johnson Controls launches Sabroe HitemHP for process heat up to 122°C
Ireland – Johnson Controls has launched its Sabroe HitemHP industrial heat pump range for European process applications, offering heating capacities from 100kW to 1,000kW and output temperatures of up to 122°C.
Using butane and isobutane refrigerants, the range is aimed at sectors including food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology and advanced manufacturing.
High-temperature process heat
The HitemHP is engineered and manufactured at Johnson Controls’ facility in Holme, Denmark, and uses the Sabroe SMC single-stage reciprocating compressor.
The system can operate across a range of heat sources and modulate from 100% down to 18% of design heating capacity. Johnson Controls said COP can be up to 20% higher at part load than at full load.

Modular design
The range uses a standardised, modular configure-to-order design, with factory-assembled units intended to reduce installation complexity and commissioning time.
Johnson Controls also said the compressor configuration can extend service intervals by nearly 50%.
Waste heat application
Johnson Controls cited one customer application in which the HitemHP was paired with waste heat from a refrigeration plant.
Under the operating conditions used for the project, the company said the system delivered up to three times the energy efficiency of electric boilers, while reducing energy costs by more than 91%, annual water costs by up to 30% and on-site CO₂ emissions by up to 82%.
The figures are based on the conditions and assumptions of that specific installation.
