Beijer Ref agrees deal for 90% of R290 heat pump maker Refra
LTU – Wholesale group Beijer Ref has signed a binding agreement to acquire 90% of Lithuanian HVAC/R manufacturer Refra, a move that would add commercial and industrial R290 heat pumps and chillers to its proprietary OEM portfolio.
The transaction. Closing is conditional on approval from Lithuania’s competition authority, while Beijer Ref has also secured an option to acquire the remaining shares.
Refra, headquartered in Vilnius, designs and manufactures customised cooling and heating equipment using natural refrigerants. Its range includes R290 heat pumps and chillers for commercial and industrial applications, alongside R744 CO₂ refrigeration systems.
Beijer Ref said Refra would continue to trade under its existing brand. The group put Refra’s annual turnover at approximately SEK500m and described the business as having good profitability; it did not provide a reporting period or disclose the purchase price.
For Beijer Ref, the agreement expands an OEM offering already associated with CO₂ refrigeration and industrial heat pump equipment through businesses including SCM Frigo and Fenagy. The company said the deal would strengthen its proprietary technology for indirect cooling and heating systems using natural refrigerants, particularly hydrocarbons, while broadening its customer base in CO₂ refrigeration.
