£9,000 Boiler Upgrade Scheme support targeted at oil and LPG homes
UK – The UK Government has set out plans to break the link between gas and electricity prices, while highlighting £9,000 of support through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme for households replacing oil and LPG heating systems.
The announcement brings together electricity market reform and targeted heat pump support, with off-gas properties positioned at the centre of delivery.
£9,000 support linked to oil and LPG replacement
Within the announcement, the £9,000 grant level is referenced in the context of switching from oil and LPG systems. The uplift from the previous £7,500 level signals a strengthening of support where installation costs are typically higher.
Off-gas properties, particularly those using oil and LPG, are identified as a priority segment due to their higher carbon intensity and exposure to volatile fuel prices.
Electricity reform and heat pump economics
Alongside the grant support, the Government confirmed plans to reform electricity pricing through the Review of Electricity Market Arrangements. The aim is to reduce the influence of gas on electricity prices and ensure the cost of power better reflects lower-cost renewable generation.
For the heat pump sector, the link between upfront support and electricity pricing remains central to improving overall system economics.
Access through certified installers
As with the existing scheme, property owners must work with installers certified under the Microgeneration Certification Scheme to access Boiler Upgrade Scheme funding.
This requirement remains a key part of quality assurance and consumer protection within the scheme.
Policy focus on off-gas deployment
The combined focus on electricity reform and targeted grant support points to a continued emphasis on accelerating deployment in off-gas homes.
By linking market reform with higher levels of support for oil and LPG replacement, the Government is signalling where it expects early progress in heat decarbonisation to be delivered.
